What is a KS3 course?
Quite simply, Key Stage 3 is the education a student is expected to receive in UK schools from the ages of 11 to 14.
Our courses have been designed to cover the same material as the National Curriculum.
How are the courses structured?
Our courses are normally divided into three separate one-year courses.
These match typical school-based programmes for Years 7, 8 and 9. It is not necessary for students to be in the “appropriate” school year to tackle each of these courses because different students proceed at very different speeds.
By the end of the Year 9 course, students are in a position to make a successful start on the equivalent GCSE or IGCSE course, perhaps at age 14.
Key Stage 4 – Pearson Edexcel International GCSE
Key Stage 4 covers Years 10 and 11, normally for students aged 14 to 16.
At BIAM, students follow Pearson Edexcel International GCSE programmes. These internationally recognised qualifications provide a strong academic foundation for progression to Sixth Form, International Advanced Level studies and, subsequently, higher education.
Students study a selection of subjects according to their academic pathway and future plans. Teaching is delivered by subject-specialist teachers, with an emphasis on subject knowledge, critical thinking, independent study and examination preparation.
BIAM uses Pearson teaching and learning resources, including subject textbooks and teacher resources, to support the delivery of its International GCSE programmes.
Assessment requirements vary according to each subject and qualification specification. Students are prepared according to the relevant Pearson Edexcel International GCSE specification.
Sixth Form – Pearson Edexcel International Advanced Level (IAL)
Sixth Form at BIAM covers Years 12 and 13 and provides a specialised academic pathway for students preparing for university.
Students follow Pearson Edexcel International Advanced Level (IAL) programmes.
International Advanced Levels are internationally recognised qualifications designed for international learners. Their modular structure enables students to complete individual units throughout their programme of study and provides flexibility in the organisation of assessment.
International AS qualifications may be taken as standalone qualifications or may contribute towards the corresponding International Advanced Level, according to the relevant subject specification.
Students normally select three International Advanced Level subjects according to their academic strengths, intended university course and future career plans. Additional subjects may be considered where academically appropriate.
Teaching is delivered by subject-specialist teachers and supported by Pearson teaching and learning resources.
Preparing for University
The Sixth Form programme at BIAM places strong emphasis on academic rigour, critical thinking, independent learning and university preparation.
Students receive individual guidance when selecting their International Advanced Level subjects, taking into account their International GCSE results, academic strengths, future aspirations and the entry requirements of their intended university courses.
Pearson Edexcel International Advanced Level qualifications provide an internationally recognised pathway to higher education.
