A Pathway to the British Curriculum
Since September 2020, the British International Academy Marrakech (BIAM) has implemented a Bridge Programme designed to support students whose first language is not English and who wish to access the British National Curriculum.
This programme enables students to progressively develop the English language skills necessary to succeed in a fully English-speaking academic environment.
BIAM welcomes students from diverse linguistic backgrounds, and the Bridge Programme ensures that each learner can transition confidently into an English-medium education.
Personalised English Assessment
As part of the admissions process, students complete an English language assessment evaluating:
-
Listening comprehension
-
Speaking ability
-
Reading skills
-
Writing and grammar
This evaluation allows our academic team to determine the most appropriate starting point for each student.
Students who require additional language support may join the Bridge Programme.
Intensive English Immersion
Students enrolled in the Bridge Programme benefit from a structured immersion approach designed to accelerate language acquisition.
Morning sessions focus on intensive English development, including:
-
Listening and comprehension
-
Spoken communication
-
Reading fluency
-
Writing and grammar
-
Academic vocabulary
These sessions provide students with the essential linguistic tools required to follow the British curriculum.
Integration with Age Group Classes
During the afternoon sessions, students join their age group classes and participate in the academic life of the school.
This structure allows students to:
-
integrate socially with the their peers
-
gain confidence in an English-speaking environment
-
progressively apply their language skills in real classroom situations
Progress at Each Student’s Own Pace
At BIAM, we recognise that language acquisition varies from student to student.
For this reason, the Bridge Programme does not have a fixed duration.
Students remain in the programme for the time necessary to reach the level required to follow the British curriculum successfully.
Once ready, they transition fully into the standard academic programme.
From Primary to Secondary
The Bridge Programme supports students from Primary through to Secondary levels, ensuring that learners of all ages can access the British education system with confidence.
Our objective is not only language development, but successful academic integration into an English-speaking learning environment.
The Bridge Programme reflects BIAM’s commitment to inclusion, international education, and academic excellence — enabling every student to access the opportunities offered by the British curriculum.
