Building Strong Foundations for Academic and Personal Growth

At British International Academy Marrakech (BIAM), Key Stage 3 (KS3) marks a vital stage in our students’ academic journey. Spanning Years 7 to 9, this phase lays the groundwork for future success at IGCSE and beyond. Our curriculum is broad, balanced, and engaging, with an emphasis on developing core academic skills, language proficiency, cultural awareness, and independent thinking.

Students at BIAM are encouraged to explore a wide range of subjects that not only prepare them for Key Stage 4 but also nurture intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and a love of learning.

Compulsory Subjects at KS3

All students follow the British National Curriculum, with a diverse set of subjects designed to support academic progression and personal development:

English Language & Literature

Mathematics

Science

Geography

History

French

Spanish

Arabic

Physical Education

Integrated Learning in Year 7

In Year 7, students experience an integrated Humanities programme, where Geography, History, and Religious Studies are taught together. This structure enhances cross-curricular links and strengthens literacy skills. From Year 8 onwards, these subjects are taught separately to align with the preparation required for IGCSE subject selection.

Modern Foreign Languages

  • French is taught in Years 7 and 8 as the main modern language.
  • In Year 9, selected students are introduced to Spanish, allowing them to choose between two languages at Key Stage 4.
  • Some students may be temporarily withdrawn from language classes in Years 8 and 9 to receive targeted literacy support.

Literacy and Numeracy Support

  • Students identified with lower reading levels in Year 7 may receive up to two additional literacy lessons per week, based on individual needs.
  • Similarly, students with weaker numeracy skills may receive extra numeracy support, with corresponding adjustments in their French or Humanities timetable to accommodate this essential intervention.

Personal Development: Growth Mindset and Independent Learning

All Year 7 pupils follow a dedicated ‘Growth Mindset’ programme, aimed at building resilience, confidence, and a positive approach to learning. This continues in Years 8 and 9 through extended project-based learning, where students develop valuable research, organisation, and self-management skills.
